He graduated from Concordia University with an associate in Science diploma, B.Comm (major in Accountancy), C.M.A., C.G.A., ACG., P.Adm., CPA and is a winner of the prestigious E.G. Hardman International Award (U.K.) from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries for the highest marks in Company Law. Roman is a proud father of four sons and treasures his nine grandchildren. He enjoys writing, telling stories, drawing, painting and travelling. His hobbies have included stamp and coin collecting, sculpting, lapidary and gardening.

He specialized in applying financial accounting business solutions for clients in a broad range of industries, government and healthcare in Canada, the United States and the Caribbean. At seminars, he discussed the adoption of MIS Guidelines by Canadian Hospitals and authored a book "Value Added Taxes and Canadian GST" (Goods and Services Tax) which the Minister of Finance had announced in April 1989 that the federal government was implementing effective January 1, 1991. As a guest speaker, he spoke about the "Impact of GST on financial software applications" at the "Software Solutions Show and Conference" in Toronto. The Toronto Star March 28, 1990 quoted him in its Business section article entitled "Business sees sales tax as "done deal".
Roman organized and presented a one day fee paid GST seminar entitled "In Pursuit of GST Systems" sponsored by D & B Software, held in major Canadian cities along with prominent members from the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs who were featured as guest speakers. As part of the seminar D&B Software published Roman's comprehensive publication "Focus on GST" for which Roman received a letter of commendation from the House of Commons, Parliamentary Secretary, Vincent Della Noce. Roman continued addressing the effect on computer systems in respect to GST as guest speaker to the York Technology Association in Toronto on "GST - Get Some Technology" and was quoted by the Canadian Computer Reseller in its April 19, 1990 article, "The Software Scene: Serpentine Trail of the GST". He was quoted again in October by Computerdata in its article entitled "GST Plague Here To Stay".
Roman enjoys writing both fiction and non-fiction. His novels combine factual and humorous life experiences with some embellishments. Some details are condensed or changed, invented or altered for literary effect. As a professor at George Brown College, Roman authored a booklet entitled "Foundation for Success" introducing the Province of Ontario Savings Office (POSO) employees to the world of credit union banking. He developed and presented a one day seminar at four locations for the POSO employees which was sponsored by Desjardins Credit Union in partnership with George Brown College. POSO had been acquired by Desjardins and the seminar was joined by Desjardins executives who formally welcomed the POSO employees into the new organization. Roman Susel was awarded the prestigious Teaching Excellence Award for his service as a professor at the Centre for Continuing Education at George Brown College in Toronto. He authored courses in Taxation and Family law; Advanced Financial Planning Practices and Ethics and has taught Commercial Law, Retirement and Estate Planning, Accounting, Bookkeeping, Budgeting Basics and Finance.
